It all started long time ago. It was somewhere during the winter when Nora from Art of Exploring asked me if I want to collaborate with her on making a video recipe. I always wanted to make video, but I don’t have skills or equipment. I love Nora’s videos and she also often takes care of our cats (thank you so much!), so of course I said yes.
First step was easy, we were looking at different videos, talking about possible approaches, that was pleasant. Second step was to meet up and that was already more difficult, it was winter, so at least twice when we were supposed to meet, we had the darkest day ever. It was hard to take a photo without a tripod. Before we knew it was spring! If you think spring weather is just awesome, you are wrong. We are based in Ireland, you will see in the video that the light changes, that is the famous Irish weather. During the afternoon we had sunny, windy, rainy, at least a few times each.
So is making video hard? Yes, it is. I usually make food, take a few photos wishing they’ll turn out fine and that’s it. For the video we needed to record every step. It needed to be pretty, not messy. Even though I tried to pick the simplest recipe still not everything worked as it should. It took a lot of time to record it and even more time to process it (Nora did all the hard worked, so that video wouldn’t happen without her).
I know the videos are the big thing, and it was great to see how Nora works, but I will not make another video unless somebody will pay me, or it will be another collaboration project, that I will do just for fun. It’s such a hard work, it takes so much time, and it’s so stressful, but… but the outcome is so cool. You can actually see our cats and have a pick into a nearby boot car sale and amazing textile stall. There is Irish blustery weather captured, all those details that are sometimes missed in the photos.

Recipe adapted from Donna’s Hay Magazine Issue 74
- 2 x 400g can cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
- 2 clove garlic, crushed
- 1 cup milk
- a pinch of nutmeg
- chopped flat parsley and flatbreads to serve
- 200g semi-dried tomatoes, drained
- 25g walnuts, finely chopped
- 80ml walnut oil
- 2 Tbsp lemon juice
- sea salt and cracked black pepper
