Alhabra, Granada, Spain - the garden

Alhambra was a highlight and centerpiece of our trip to Spain. It is a beautiful Moorish palace with big gardens. Lonely Planet described it as the most brilliant Islamic building in Europe.

Our friends planned to visit it during their first trip to Andalusia, but they didn’t foresee how busy it is and you need to book tickets ahead. So thanks to their experience we were smart. We booked tickets weeks before. As they were there before we could skip the queue by using ticket machines, that are closer to the entrance (next to a gift shop). Just remember to take the same card you used to book online, as you will need it.

It’s truly magical spot. It’s big enough to wonder around a full day or even two.

As it is placed on a hill, the views are splendid. A watering system keeps the garden blooming even in Spanish heat and in sprayed water you can spot a rainbow.

The Arabic architecture is just awesome. I loved the attention to details, the patterns, there are so many tiny details. It was hard to pick a handful of photographs, every detailed seemed to be worth keeping – the floor, the ceiling, windows, niche, stairs, etc. So excuse me this time with not being too selective, but I hope you enjoy the details.

I’ve struggled especially with The Nasrid Palaces. The access it’s restricted and you need to book exact time slot to get in, but once you get in, you can stay as long as you like. Just look:
